Answer: There was no instruction book per say. It had some songs in it but I don’t read music, so it was no help to me. I do know for sure the other rubber things are for you to put on your fingers so you can play without the sticks, but it changes the sound and I don’t like them. -

Answer: I would say no. It comes with rubber mallets. I would imagine that wood drumsticks would make it sound horrible. Flip side is, give it a try. You can always return the item if it doesn't work out for you.
