Answer: This device has nothing to do with wifi. This uses your home's electrical wiring to provide a wired Ethernet connection to somewhere else in your home. -

Answer: It is highly recommended that all power network adapters be plugged directly into the wall. If I was to try an extension cord with this I would use a heavy duty one (like you use outside) with only the power network adapter on it. -

I have several brite-view units both bvp-5100 and bv-210 bridges. can't connect now that i bought a new router. can not reach them for help?
Answer: They operate independently of the router. I would try re-pairing the devices, but it's more likely an issue with the end device not talking to the router. I would check your network settings to make sure you're using the right gateway. -

Can the newer bv-5100 work with existing connections that use the bv-210 and bv-254?
Answer: I am not familiar with the BV-210 and BV-254, but they are both powerline ethernet adapter, so I guess the BV5100 should work the same as 210 and 254. -

Answer: Yes, this lets you use the power-cabling in your building instead of an Ethernet cable. -

Can you connect more than 2 of these together?
Answer: Yes, the sequence to synch more than 2 is very specific and can be troublesome. -

Are these protected from power surges?
Answer: There is no surge protection built into these devices. -

Is the connectivity stable? As good as Ethernet straight to the router?
Answer: No. Ethernet is far superior in stability and throughput. These units are rated at 500Mbps vs. CAT 6 at 10Gbps but the real difference is in stability. My family moved to a new home and I'm using these for streaming Tivo to 3 TVs until I wire the house for CAT6. It works most of the time, but the connection occasionally drops out and you have to unplug/replug the devices to bring the connection online again. On average this happens about once a week. For the purpose of temporary internet connection they work great (and much cheaper than a wireless bridge) but I wouldn't rely on them for anything critical.
