Answer: You can read the BIOS, the software is only for Windows and Android I think. -

When I try to install the software, my McAfee AV (anti-virus) software deletes the executable (ch341a). Please advise.
Answer: It's a false negative. Temporary disable McAfee and install, and it will be fine. Then restart McAfee. -
Question:
Do I need to modify this to run at 3.3V without frying SOP8 chip?
Answer: No, you just plug and play it on a PC or laptop. -
Question:
Can I use this on a bricked laptop which won't power on and put the BIOS onto the device from another PC?
Answer: This device is limited to certain EEPROMs, so it is unlikely to be compatible with your laptop BIOS chip. You may be better off using some other device to read the BIOS from the replacement laptop and transferring it to a new chip. -
Question:
When I connect it to the USB port, Windows doesn't see it, even though I have installed drivers. It doesn't even come up as unrecognized.
Answer: I don't use Windows with this EEPROM reader, however, even using Linux, you need software to interact with the reader. My advice is to use Linux.
